Drivers: we'll send out driving directions to the gathering via email the first week of May.

Riders: you can arrange ride shares on the Discord server. Also, there's a new option for riding to the gathering this year. The bus costs $55 round trip and leaves SF on Thursday May 7 at 5pm.

The best low cost option we've found for Bay Area camping gear rental is Last Minute Gear on 24th in the Mission. They offer 24-hour access for pickup and drop off, as well as a walk-in-only borrowing option. Their website is https://www.lastmingear.com/

We have booked a shuttle bus that will leave SF at 5pm Thursday May 78and will return leaving the gathering at 1pm Sunday. Round trip tickets for the shuttle are $55.

With your help, we prepare and serve 3 meals a day. This year we're adding a late night snack to the menu. The kitchen opens with dinner service Thursday and closes after breakfast on Sunday.

The People's Mic is how we provide access to speakers and a mic for group activities that need amplified sound. If that sounds like you, be sure to fill in your participation info in your My Account dashboard and let us know what you're planning.

This year we are offering microgrants for artworks that help create intimate spaces for shared experiences. For more info, read the Camper Guide.

We are a DIY event, and are able to produce the gathering because of your help taking care of crucial roles. Like making and serving meals, as well as helping check in at the gate, set up and breakdown.

We'll send out call for volunteer shifts later this winter. You can read more about our volunteer crews in the Camper Guide.

We are a DIY event and your participation is what makes it all work. In the past we asked everybody to volunteer on one of the crews, but we're now big enough that we don't really need all 500 of you in the kitchen, let's be honest. So this year we've shifted our team around a little bit so we can me more able to facilitate your ideas. So, what are you bringing and how can we help you?

What’s your preferred method of playing?

Two CDJs and a decent mixer and I won't complain, although I love having a third for tight back to back mixing or looping any dj tools, acapellas, and spoken word that I fancy at the moment. I usually like to play tucked high away in a back corner that isn't the focus of the venue, that way I can get a good view or I like to be on the floor with the crowd with not much spotlight. I typically don't use much of my monitor at all because I like to hear what is going on out on the dancefloor. When it comes to vinyl, although I have a decent record collection and sometimes bite the bullet on buying a three track press with shipping three times what the record costs itself, I've only DJd an all vinyl set four times. Not my preferred method as I can't afford the shipping for a lot of them to keep up with the what's up. At home I use an XDJ-RX to practice on now, which is what I used to record this mix! As far as producing, I still use Ableton 9, and a Akai MPK, plus my vault of samples. I am usually a sample based producer, I like to incorporate VST/analog sounds as well. Typically my tracks right now are 50/50 but working on finding the right sound still and maybe switch to all analog one day, but I kind of have fun doing whatever I want without having to dive into one specific genre or structure. The ultimate switch!

How did you get into djing?

I am pretty new to all of this in a lot of ways, but I started DJing nine years ago, and producing music ten years ago, 2009.

I started making whacky sample based breaky rave tracks through a cracked ableton 8, and then I bought myself a denon hd2500, which I used to practice djing jungle/drum& bass with. Prior to that I was using Ableton live to mix cheeky rave sets with. I liked it all so much I eventually bought myself ableton 9 and got into making everything from disco and house edits to garage and techno cuts. I would go up to Baltimore for warehouse parties and the Paradox. I felt more comfortable in Baltimore than I did in D.C. at the time. I got my first big gig at the Paradox for the 19th annual Maskarave in 2011. In 2012 I helped produce the NASA 20th anniversary with N-Joi, 808 State, Altern8 and Joey Beltram! That was an experience that propelled me in the direction I wanted to go. As time progressed with other gigs throughout the rave scene in the DMV (D.C./Maryland/Virginia), I felt more out of place(unsafe) and wanting to be around more like minded queer folx. The problem was that gay clubs at the time weren't into what i was laying down, and I was "too edm" for the rising underground techno scenes. Always "too underground" or "too edm"

Luckily that has slowly changed over the years. D.C. is THRIVING! So many awesome DJs, events, crews and labels that have risen throughout the past 5 years and I have been able to connect with a great music family though groups such as gays hate techno. I started making music because it was a great way for me to either escape or express myself at any given time. I think music became my muse because of coming from a musical background with my father playing cello and their parents who composed music together. I love dancing a lot and it really makes me happy and emotional. I feel like a human. It calms and defrags my wandering mind. I am so grateful to get opportunities to play music for others, because I am sure they get those same happy feelings on the dancefloor as well! To me it is a cathartic, dare I say a spiritual thing. To the beat of one drum! .

Present & future

In regards to events, DJing, and producing, they have been on the backburner of my mind and not really set as a priority, so I haven't been going full steam ahead. I turned thirty this year and a cascade called life has hit me with a lot of enlightenment and affirmations which has me working on my mental health and well being. I never expected to get this far in life and now that I have, I guess I really do have to focus and envision a future. Brighter days! I am so grateful to be able to get by in life with music, I felt it necessary to try and give back. So, I am in the slow process of putting together a label called Outreach that will have biannual local music compilations featuring vocals from local performers and drag entertainers. The proceeds from the compilation will go to local lgbtqia organizations. Currently trying to make my way across the pond to Germany for renaturalization, in honor of my grandfather, Ludwig Lenel a German Jewish organ composer who came to America in 1939 when he was 16. I know, it’s super cliche to move to Germany and work on techno music ?✌️Gearing up for a west coast winter tour in 2020 with dates in Vancouver, Portland, and San Francisco so far

What’s your preferred method of playing?

My preferred method of spinning is Serato with control records since I have a very slim record collection left sad to say. I enjoy CDJ's also but will play on anything that will allow me to share my love of music with the people on the dance floor.

How did you get into djing?

I started making IDMish/house tracks in the early/mid 90's after seeing mods in action. I bought a used Korg Poly-800 early on and later borrowed a friend's Nord Lead and a K2000 hooked up to the original version of Logic Audio before Apple bought it out - the version that came with a dongle to ensure against piracy. The word dongle always made me chuckle.

As for DJing, I messed around with the turntables at my college's radio station. My friends accused me of trading them (my friends) out for records. I started really DJing when I lived in New Orleans about 6 years ago. It never dawned on me to spin the music that I loved until then.

Present & future

I created Pegasus, a queer dance party in Chapel Hill, NC housed in one of the first gay bars in the nation in the 60's and plan to bring back some variation of this in the future.

Otherwise I gig fairly regularly in random spots around the NC Triangle such as the Nightlight, Pinhook, and Arcana as Lady Fingers or as half of the duo Holy Tribady and Sir Elton Jane.

What’s your preferred method of playing?

I recorded the set at home with two vinyl turntables and a mixer. I thought the first take was appropriately rough.

Recording a podcast is difficult for me, because when I'm by myself I usually feel like I have nothing more to say after having played five records. About 70% of the tracklist was more or less finished for many many months, but I just couldn't find the missing pieces. In the end the mix became quite personal, so I'm happy with it.

How did you get into djing?

I visited Berlin for the first time in 2009 and discovered that the gay scene there is significantly more fun than what Helsinki has to offer. After coming home I bought my first techno mp3s, started going to raves, and a year later I started buying vinyl.

I got into DJing in 2010 when me and my queer university friends founded the Homotekno collective, which was directly influenced by my experiences in Berlin. Inspired by squat parties and Finnish student culture, we decided to go for the non-profit DIY approach. We built up the soundsystem, lights and decorations from scratch for every party. There was a total of nine Homotekno parties in the span of four years, and I guess we're still recovering from the burnout.

Present & future

In the future I intend to focus more on production and live sets. My small home studio is almost ready, I just need some patience to learn the gear.

How did you get into djing?

DJ español, fanático de la música electrónica desde que tenía 15 años de edad. Influenciado por los sonidos oscuros y contundentes de sellos como Tresor, UR, Warm up o Plus8. How did you get into DJing?

As a child growing up in the 1990's I was naturally surrounded in electronic music, mainly from video games. I was never really interested in DJing until around late 2011 when I replayed games I grew up playing and noticed how awesome the soundtracks were. I've always been into playing music, however, playing in various bands in my youth. My affinity for noise, metal, and industrial music definitely influences my techno selections, but I also have a passion for juke, jungle, and garage. I've been deeply listening to electronic music since my early teens, first diving into the UK dubstep and techno scenes. All of the sounds that I've grown up listening to are currently what influence my djing.

What is your preferred method of playing?

I prefer to use Traktor, with a very modular setup. I connect my laptop to the mixer in external mixing mode, and use either turntables, cdjs, controllers, or a mapped keyboard depending on what is available at the venue. On occasion, I like to spin vinyl, although my beatmatching on vinyl is somewhat spotty due to lack of practice. My vinyl selection is mostly faster techno at around 140bpm.

Present/Future

I have a show coming up, called Togetherism: Hollow.
The venue will be announced the night before, due to the city of Vancouver's willingness to shut down raves that they find on facebook.

How did you get into DJing?

I started DJing parties in college around 2006. That's about the time I stopped studying music (because practicing is lame), switched majors, and started playing records out (because partying is awesome). It was all downhill from there. It's also worth mentioning I had a lot of exposure to house and techno from growing up in Dallas (and several of the producers on this mix are from Texas).

What is your preferred method of playing?

If there are two turntables on a flat surface with ample separation from drunk-bro, I'm gonna get down with the vinyl. Otherwise, CDJ CD/USB penetrations are lovely, and mixing externally from Traktor works great too. But for this mix, she just beamed music directly into the Internet with her mind. And unicorn magic.

Present/Future

I have a pretty intense month coming up with an official SXSW showcase and other gigs. I'm also playing some great parties later this spring and summer, including Sqrrrl in L.A. next month.

How did you get into DJing?

I suppose one could say that my love affair with music began at an early age. Much to my chagrin, my mother thought it was beneficial to enroll me for piano lessons. Those lasted about 8 years before I decided to call it quits and move on to greener pastures. Ironically, it was during that time the transition from classical music to electronic music organically unfolded. Sometime in 2000 I began experimenting with blending music on my computer, with disastrous results… this was a time devoid of software sync. In the fall of 2001 I graduated to a pair of turntables and began my journey in collecting vinyl and honing my technical skills. I recall the first few months of practicing being quite frustrating as there was no one to turn to for advice and none of my friends were into DJing… but magically after about 3 months in, something just clicked inside of my head. The rest is, as they say, history. Musically, I've always leaned toward the deeper, weirder more abstract sounds, so my mainstay throughout the years has been a blend between quirky strange house and groovy stripped down techno. What is your preferred method of playing?

My preferred method of playing consists of a harmonious marriage between Serato Scratch Live and vinyl from my record collection. I'm not one to use many effects, if at all, but if I am feeling especially mischievous I'll hook up my iPad mini in order to use Serato Remote to launch samples, loops, etc.

Present/Future

2013 ended on a rather high note, musically speaking (pun intended). I was fortunate to play several fun parties over the last few months; Hot Mass in Pittsburgh (Thanks Aaron Clark/Humanaut) and Beretta Music Halloween party in San Diego (Thanks Charley and Michael)… rounding off with two live shows on ultrawizardsword.net. 2014 so far has kept the momentum moving. I recently played an outstanding gig at the EndUp in SF, with a very up for it crowd on a late Sunday evening. I think something on the regular will be brewing with those guys. Looking forward, I have a few new podcasts coming up; MCast Sessions on Proton Radio in February, Honcho podcast in March and an All Things Minimal podcast whenever I get my lazy ass in gear. I also have another ultrawizardsword show planned for the end of April. Gig wise, I believe that I have some interesting things lined up for this year, but, I’m going to keep that pussy in the bag for now. However, I will say, one of my personal goals for 2014 is to play out more, go out more and put a face to the name that my atrocious Facebook wall has made for myself. I am definitely excited to see how 2014 unfolds.

How did you get into DJing?

I’ve been going out and dancing to techno for years but only recently felt inspired to start mixing. I finally met a couple of very cool homos with similar passions for techno and we completely hit it off. After having an amazing time in Detroit this year, I came home really excited about music. I picked up Traktor, a new mixer, and started messing around; haven't been able to focus on much else since.

What is your preferred method of playing?

I'm having fun with loops in Traktor. I’d like to add a little more complexity at some point; add two more decks to the Traktor set up and repair my turntables so I can learn how to actually mix my vinyl.

Present/Future

At the moment, I’m having fun playing and recording sets for myself. In the future, I’d be interested in playing for some people, but right now it’s more about me still learning to string together the music I’ve been hoarding.

How did you get into DJing?

I grew up obsessed with music, either tinkering with drum machines like the Yamaha DD-5, mid-range Casio keyboards and small boomboxes as recording devices or penning the lyrics to Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd albums as a kid. Later on, I played saxophone in school, drums and guitar with friends in our parents garages on weekends, inspired by Sonic Youth, Nirvana, Melvins and eventually bands like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Tony Williams, Weather Report. Hearing Plug/Luke Vibert, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Bogdan, Ovuca, Mike Dred (Universal Indicator) and all those folks on the Nothing Records sampler CD and seeing Come To Daddy on MTV as a teenager shifted things for me into the electronic space. Some friends of mine in High School turned me onto Impulse Tracker, Cool Edit Pro, ModPlug and AudioMulch and I just stuck with it. I liked doing everything myself and running with whatever vibe/feeling I felt at the time. Slowly, learning more software and eventually getting back into hardware and combining everything together while simultaneously learning more about the history of electronic music and dance/rave culture. After High School, I went to Ex'pressions in Emeryville (class# 8!) and School of Audio Engineering in Nashville - this gave me a good foundation for audio, I quickly realized I wasn't interested in recording shitty bands all day, hearing the drummer make the same mistakes over and over so I moved on, but that foundation is still applied every time I work on my own music. These days I'm more excited about working with other people who make music I like and creating something unique to us as a team. Abandoned Footwear (https://soundcloud.com/abandoned-footwear) is a project that Jynx (Nommo Ogo, Identity Theft, Seacrypt) and I started a year or so ago. Jynx prefers to stay all analog, whereas I tend to bring in more digital/software sources - so we've ended up with a super tight system combining everything together. Yes, there is a laptop involved but it's not handling audio, all the machines have their own voice but we are able to utilize some of the more modern features that software and digital machines bring to the table, while getting the warm, gritty, noisey, smooth, harsh and sometimes random sounds and textures from the analog machines.

What is your preferred method of playing?

Usually, when I play out it's a "live" set with Ableton and machines or sometimes just one machine like the Machinedrum. This time around I did a "DJ set" of tracks I like with a few of my own thrown in. I say "DJ set", but it's more of a sequencing and editing of other people's songs, strewn together to tell a story - sort of like assembling an album or collage. I'm not a real DJ, I can't beatmatch two records to save my life, I don't read the crowd and I don't practice or follow the DJ discipline at all, really. I just like to layer stuff and (would like to think) I have a good ear for frequency and musical balance. This set was assembled with Ableton and effects and contains tracks I'd like to hear on a loud system or on headphones.

How did you get into DJing?

Grew up playing music/singing in church and at home. In high School/College played in punk, rock, and jam/funk bands. In 1993 on Thanksgiving night I candy-flipped at a warehouse on Harrison St. in San Francisco. I have been in love with dance music ever since. Technically my first experience was in the parking lot of the Oakland Coliseum sucking down nitrous balloons at DJ Garth's Disco Bus but I digress...I started buying records and trying my hand at DJing in 1996-1997. In 1999 I started producing my own tracks. In 2004 I pressed 200+ copies of a white label of 4 of my tracks. I am more in love with this music than ever before. I live to be in my basement making tracks or on the dance floor shakin' my ass. Truth be told...I am a dancer. That's why I am here still a part of this scene. I just love dancing! Oh yeah...and I am an unapologetic raver that still sees the positive possibilities with the human race.

What is your preferred method of playing?

I DJ in Abelton Live with an AKAI APC40 controller. I generally will add some drum sounds and sometimes loops of tracks I am working on to add texture to the mix. I live for the extended mix of 2-3 tracks with added percussion. The way I like to mix is greatly influenced by the old Richie Hawtin set up 3 turntables and a 909. It s not uncommon for me to keep 2 or more tracks playing together for well over a minute.

How did you get into DJing?

When I was a kid I listened often in my bedroom a radio show called Dj Mix on a Italian FM Radio, i used to recorded in tapes every session of the show. It was in 1984 and I played those tapes for years over and over before starting to buy those vinyls I was listening in my walkman. It was Acid House! At the same time I discovered the New Sound of Belgium called New Beat!
Some years later my vinyl collection were growing up more and more, collecting early house, italo disco, new wave, acid house, experimental music, rocksteady, minimal synth...
In the early nineties I played in Switzerland (Geneve) for the first time in a famous place called L’Usine, the sensation making and seeing people dancing started me as DJ until nowdays.
When I moved to Brussels in 1996 I started my radio show on an independant radio called Radio Panik (www.radiopanik.org). In 1999, with some friends we created our label called Pneu (www.pneu.org) and we start to run some parties. In 2005 I met some italian djs and I started to collaborate with them (Discolooser, Subwoofer, Cockette,...)

Preferred method of playing

I mostly use vinyls but also cds. When I travel I use as well Serato Scratch.

Present/Future

I’m still running my radio show each wednesday from 8.30 to 10 pm on Radio Panik 105.4 FM Brussels
We recently released on Pneu Records the LP Palais Chalet: a compilation with some bands that played at our party during the last years.
Out soon my remix of Sambaca of ALIEN ALIEN on Roccodisco (featuring as well remixes by GM POP and Fabrizio Mammarella).. more remixes are coming.

How did you get into DJing?

I got into DJing around 2003, after years of music hoarding, playing in bands and writing about music for some alt weeklies and rags in SF and Minneapolis. After forcing one too many mixtapes on a friend, she suggested I channel that NRG into DJing, and then got me my first gig (thanks, Campbell!). I also started composing film scores with that same friend using vintage synths, processed guitars and drum machines around that time. I moved back to the Midwest in 2008, and, re-fell in love with house and techno, and started taking the actual craft of DJing seriously. I came back to San Francisco in 2010 and started playing that stuff out, and, also recently started making music again.

Preferred method of playing

When I started getting back into house & techno, I also started re-buying dance records and reconnecting with music I loved when I first started clurrrbbing. DJing those genres is still fairly new for me, so, playing and mixing with records and high quality coasters...I mean burned CDs, provides a really interesting challenge that I can't see myself getting tired of anytime soon. The fact that I now can mix the records I used to obsessively listen to in my little apartment in Minneapolis has been one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. With that said, I also think Serato is perfect for events where I have to hop from one disparate genre to another, and, I use it when the need arises. I have always loved buying records, but, I also now enjoy the digital hunt and instant gratification it provides. Since it's the year 2013 and we do not appear to be moving backwards in time, I'll most likely continue to buy both.

Present/Future

I recently started a record label with two friends - dabecy and Exillon - called Jacktone, and, we just released our first 12” (jacktonerecords.com). I’m also trying to find the perfect home for my radio show/podcast I co-host called Dots and Loops. I’m venue shopping in SF and Oakland for a new residency, and gigging around town/everywhere as often as I can. I'm excited to focus more on production this year and am chomping at the bit to travel to new spots, meet some like-minded music jerks, and, continue to absorb everything I can about DJing and production. I feel like I learn 100 new things about music everyday and I hope that never changes. I'm truly grateful for all the opportunities I've been given so far by my pals and they never cease to amaze and inspire me. It feels great to be part of such a supportive music community, so, thanks for letting me submit this mix!

How did you get into DJing?

Mat dos Santos and David Sternesky are Two Dudes in Love. We each have long histories of production, DJing, and promoting. Now we are sharing our love for each other and our love of music with the world.

What is your preferred method of playing?

We use whichever medium gives us the appropriate kind of creative expression depending on the situation. For this recording we used Serato Itch and an Allen & Heath Xone DX controller.

This live set is from a party we produced at Burning Man for Comfort & Joy on August 28, 2012. The party was called The Mechanization of Fertility. The party began as an celebration of human sensuality with groovy, soulful house music setting the vibe - but that's not what you'll hear in this recording.

At midnight, when this recording begins, the music abruptly changed to mechanistic, driving techno as bright strobe lights suddenly filled the tent. The garden of earthly delights was invaded by a procession of interstellar robot sex workers. The mechanical hustlers presented a mating dance to the human natives to awaken their sexual desires. Human fertility was usurped by mechanical fertility, and the human citizens willfully gave themselves over to robotic pleasure. Man and machine danced vertically and horizontally until the early hours of the morning (when the power source failed and the recording got cut off).

How did you get into DJing?

I started DJing in 1995 and seriously producing in 2004. I am mostly concerned with melting brains and rearranging atoms. I like to think of it as confrontational techno with some funk in the trunk.

How did you get into DJing?

I've always loved music especially from around the age of 17 when I started going to good clubs here in the UK like Gatecrasher, Sankeys, The Attic, The Music Box and Back to Basics.

I always wanted some decks at that age but could never afford them at the time. My friend got a pair of Technics for his 21st birthday, this was the first time I ever had a go at trying to mix but nothing serious. It wasn't until 3 years ago I got some turntables of my own at which stage I was really into the Deep House sound and that's what I started mixing with.

What is your preferred method of playing?

Personally I use Technics MK5 1210 turntables & Traktor Scratch Pro and I like both vinyl and digital formats. With so much good music out right now it's easier on the wallet to buy my music digitally.

Present/Future

I spend a lot of time searching for new music but DJ'ing is just a hobby, I've only ever done one gig before and that was last year for a mates birthday. How did you get into DJing?

I got into producing about 2 years ago with Ableton Suite.

Some of the best moments of my entire life, times where I have felt to be at the pinnacle of my existance, have been dancing with my friends to this kind of music, particularily deeper minimal/house. Having so much bass in this kind of music enables a very rare and intimate form of collective joy with those around you, because you're all simultaneously moving together while not just hearing the music, but (more importantly IMO) you're also feeling it together. That's been my experience with it, and being as touched as I am, and because of musics over all capabilities for my personal growth, I feel the need to contribute. I feel the need for others to have these feelings that music makes me have when I'm dancing with those dear to me. So I bought Ableton.

What is your preferred method of playing?

I've only ever DJ'd with Ableton + APC 40. As I just mentioned, I got into Ableton for producing, I'm much more interested in producing than I am in DJing, but I certainly love to DJ. I'm still pretty new with production and everyone can hear it, but over all I improve in leaps and bounds with every new track I make. They're all on my soundcloud page, soundcloud.com/tisdale

That being said, after learning production basics in Ableton, I just kind of inherently knew how to DJ based on everything I had already learned, so why not put it to use? Oh, also I made this mix "live" in my room in one shot with said software/hardware.

Present/Future

I've recently begun my most exciting musical venture called "WHAT?" with Trevor Sigler, Joe Pickett, and Dima, which is every wednesday at 222 hyde from 7 to midnight. I'm enjoying DJing but am even more passionate about making music and learning. How did you get into DJing?

i started buying techno and house 12"around 1994 being inspired by the dj's i was seeing at the underground parties taking place in detroit. that insatiable desire to hunt down music hasn't diminished 18 years later. only the means to to do so has evolved.

What is your preferred method of playing?

i still lug around bags of vinyl to gigs but also play cd's. the one thing that hasn't changed is a tendency for being over prepared for a gig.

Present/Future

i currently dj around san francisco and beyond and help throw a weekly sunday night party with the honey soundsystem crew. on the side i continue to hone my production skills. coming up very shortly i've got a remix being put out collaboratively on 12" between honey soundsystem & cocktail d'amore. it's a song called "face love anew" by stereogamous featuring the vocal talents of shaun j wright. definitely check it out!

Present and Future

I recently graduated from art school with a Bachelor Of Science Degree in Audio Production. I have been DJ'ing for about 2 1/2 years and producing for 3 1/2. I like to make jokes and funny faces. I also love living in San Francisco. I think as far as music goes, the city as a whole is pretty spoiled with options. I like to exploit those options.

For this mix I chose a darker (subjective) selection then I would normally choose, but they are all still true to my sound. I hope you guys enjoy what this mix has to offer! Please feel free to send me feedback.

How did you get into djing?

I started playing around with production when I was 11 or 12 with a software called DM2 I believe. Haven't stopped ever since. I started out playing off a laptop but I've taken up playing vinyl exclusively instead. I occasionally bring some CD's out as well. The recording set up was very basic (it's all we can get in the forest) Two turntables. 1 CD player, a Behringer mixer and my Abelton Live to capture the audio.

Present/Future

I am simply floating around these days, occasionally playing parties in Brooklyn a few times a year for the Sunrise Over Monitor kids. Looking forward to playing for some fresh faces before the end of the year and generally I'm just looking to have lots of fun!

How did you get into djing?

I am an intermedia artist who has been utilizing dj sets for over a decade to lure listeners into a sensorial state of deep rhythmic and melodic abandon. I'm thoroughly obsessed with collecting and playing with all the different types of deep sounds that the universe has to offer.

After a hearty career of fledgling undergrounding, I got involved with various crews throwing parties in Los Angeles in 1998 and by the year 2000 I had already amassed a sizable collection of deep wax. After finishing fashion school, I got a job with Ovum Recordings from 2003-2005 in marketing and promotions. It was really great experience getting to help out with Ovum shows around the states and especially at WMC. In mid 2004 I met one of the founders of BerettaMusic, Ryski, as we were constantly running into each other at gigs in Southern California. 2005 was the first year I attended DEMF, and became great friends with the rest of the Beretta Crew. I have been integrally involved with the label ever since. I started the deep podcast "Distance Over Time" (http://feeds.feedburner.com/distance_over_time) in March of 2009 which serves as a broader musical framework for Beretta artists to contextualize their work within and also as a gourmet supplement to their personal musical visions.

What is your preferred method of playing?

My ideal setup employs vinyl and serato scratch live with a kontrol x-1 on technics and all routed through a xone mixer - this is setup I created my GaysHateTechno mix with.

How did you get into djing?

I started collecting records beginning of the 90's, every single place visited was good to find records.
Quickly this passion grew and I've started to play in radio shows for the late night programs where only the addicted were tuning on to listen to some new amazing sounds.
In 2004, I started to play in Brussels (Belgium) from bars to bars and parties to parties.
In 2006, I landed at Le Belgica (in Brussels downtown gay district). It is the first dj bar in Brussels, where they filter beats and vibes for more than 24 years now. They have a great sound system and an absolutely amazing crowd ready to party!
These left me some really good memories of best parties ever like the annuals street parties or the special events where the bar and the street are over crowded!
Beside Le Belgica, I've spinned records around Belgium either for private parties in some amazing location like castles, met amazing people like all the Russian advertising crew for the Martini photo shoot; or played in some club that have true soul like Cafe Capital (Antwerp) or Brussels T Dance the Sundays afternoon (organized by the Naughty Team).

How did you get into djing?

I've been making mixes for people for about 8 years. Traktor just makes it stupidly easy to fool around with music and whether you're playing with techno or ambient music, there's always something rewarding about looping and stacking sounds on top of each other. I understand method is everything in art, so I will avoid saying I'm a "dj" to save myself from the stale conversation around the definition of "dj labor". I just love these records. I'm not making a dime pressing these buttons.

I was a music writer for a magazine called Blow Up for many years and for most of those years I thought I'd always be on the listening side of the spectrum, never really getting my hands dirty. Attending techno stuff in NYC and in Berlin last year has inspired this anti-midlife-crisis phase where I have an itch to actually put stuff out there. We'll see how it develops.

What is your preferred method of playing?

It's all Traktor. Like a real poser.

How did you get into djing and producing?

Long story. To make it short, I came out from punk and found myself into promotion of big illegal rave parties in Italy and Europe. I spent all of the nineties creating contexts on where to set dance and techno free on a d.i.y. base. After 20 years I felt the desire to release the absorbtion of musics, images and thoughts into performing it. This is how i came up to dj and funnily enough this moment was convergent to my coming out.

What is your preferred method of playing

Toward digital I would say and I would love to bring the discussion out of a bipolarised dialectics between the sad tropics of an analogic warm sound's lost purism and the digital designed engineering of the information market. I'd invite to mix every source up and find your own individual way to comunicate, being it a mega set up or a simple two traktor decks in synch. Personally speaking I do not consider myself a dj but a writer bringing my rethorics to a synesthesic experience as my formation is social-anthropology and I work and teach in the queer studies and cultures of conflicts field. So it is about multiplyting languages to expand identities and life visions. It is about you as the filter and it is about the crowd as active response. It is about spaces and times crisis. It is about otherness. It is about liberation.

Present/Future

Well I am co-producing this bi-monthly event in Berlin that became an incredible expereince in one of the biggest and sexually liberating spaces in Berlin called KitKat Club. I am working with JopRec artist Fernando Poo and the label owner Konik Polny and I might start some collaboration in the future the new born techno roman label Black Sam Records.

To give you a meaning of what i think about queer spaces i'll post you some of the gegen manifesto i wrote one year ago to define the party:

Against yourself. Around queer narratives.

Gegen is a complex word in German because it has two opposite meanings.

Historically speaking it means "against", signifying all the counter cultural movements since the very beginning of youth cultures but if you apply the word to time, it means "around". One meaning is closed, defined in terms of space. The other is open and undefined in terms of time. In the contemporary moment the idea of "enemy" — in which a thought and an action can be identifiable as "against" — is not there and is not clear anymore as power relationships changed through the development of post-modernism. And this gave space to markets to regenerate themselves through the queer-counter cultural movements by producing an oligopoly of empty events repeating themselves until their fast extinction and in the same time by crystallising the institutionalisation of big "queer meccas" which exercise more and more power on the scene. This process is verifiable in Berlin as the incubator of new world trends in the arts of entertainment.

This basic tension gives the spaces and the times for a new proposal to blossom from the ashes of the historical and infamous queer techno party called "SABOT°AGE BERLIN" which characterised fades of mutation in some of the wildest Friedricshain nights. The aim is playing with the solitude of the political meaning of GEGEN as a suicidal mechanism of the "self" or the sublime crisis of enemy subtraction as the aggression of dialectics. A linguistic game of pop art where the semantic putsch of "Gegen" becomes the broken mirror of its own impossibilities. The electric fear to find oneself multiple by being against oneself and unrecognisable. The dangers of being desireful in a psycho dramatic performance. The political practice of hallucinatory love to defy hate as antagonistic, identitarian mechanism.

Perceiving the idea of community as a demagogic form for bigger powers like religions, societies and markets to exercise their violence with the fake flag of politically correct partecipation, we do not wish to design a party just to give you a safe space and protection. We are not selling you the possibility to be "queer" for one night. We want to expose you to your own fears and pleasures by pushing you to understand how your own power mechanisms are produced. This is why we invite you to be GEGEN by performing your psychosis, by being the enemy of yourself, by thinking and being out of b/order and by destroying every rational thought.

How did you get into djing and producing?

Stereogamous came together as a need to inject some future and sexualness into the flacid local scene. We are based in Australia but move around like the seasons. This mix of CDs and vinyl was recorded direct to DAT tape at TROUGH FAGGOT PARTY, our own residency in Melbourne's legendary sex club 80. It includes one of our own tracks and a remix, plus a bunch of sex positive make out tunes. The next Trough is in April 2012 and then these mens will be playing in the Americas over summer, including Toronto Pride, P-Town and San Francisco. Come and get some.

Present/Future

We have recently collaborated on a track with Shaun J Wright (ex Hercules and Love Affair) which is to be released on Honey Soundsystem record label. We have remixed a plethora of acts, from Kylie to LCD Soundsystem, most recently Light Asylum and Sam Sparro, and are currently collaborating with JD Samson (MEN) and also George Michael on new material.

How did you get into djing and producing?

Djing: I've always been into making mixtapes. i remember sitting by the radio as a kid taping songs off the radio and putting it together as a mixtape(first few seconds cut off of songs) , and then in the 90's trading tapes with friends, and i've been told that I make legendary mixtapes so yea……
I've been collecting records since my early teens, and then in my late teens early 20's friends of mine would ask me to play records at their house parties...and that's basically how it started. I didn't start to mix or really take it seriously till i started going out to parties in nyc around 2001-02.. I held my first residency and cut my teeth as a disco dj back in 2003 at a party called "Main Ingredients", and since then i've been fortunate enough to have played at: apt, santos party house, passerby, club 205, club love, tribeca grand, and le bain at the standard, 
Producing: I played the drums as a kid, and studied music production/audio engineer in college, but it was daft punk that made me want to produce dance music! " teachers" is my template! 

What is your preferred method of playing?

vinyl, and a few cd's

Present/Future

In January 2012 I started a record label with my creative partner Daniel Helmer, and in February we put out our first record: Sycorax “Scrapped & Buttered” ep. It's currently in stores, and is available to order through our website, or through downtown 304, and it hits shops in the uk/germany next week!

We have a second release planned for the spring, which will have two original Sycorax tracks and remixes by Terekke (L.I.E.S) and Steve Summers (Clone, L.I.E.S)
I also have a Sycorax live PA debut show planned for may 5th at Shea Stadium in Bushwick, Brooklyn..powered by the infamous Bakery Soundsystem…
